Which is better Lake Travis (by Austin) or Canyon Lake (by New Braunfels)?

-Which is better for camping if so where (name of campgrounds please)?
-Which has better water (cooler/clearer)?
-Which has better swimming?
-Which has better fishing (bank fishing or boat)?

If you have an opinion, please give me suggestions on places to camp, swim, fish, or even rent boats/jet skiis.

They are totally different in their surroundings. Lake Travis is surrounded by Austin, and Canyon Lake is mostly rural. Canyon Lake is located in the Hill Country, and is quite scenic. It has many campgrounds operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Check www.reserveamerica.com, and search on "Potters Creek", it's the most equipped. I imagine the water quality/swimming/fishing is about equal between the two lakes, but be aware that all our central Texas lakes are horribly low right now because of the drought.

Canyon Lake for sure. Lake Travis is surrounded by austin too much and is way to busy and crowded in the summer time.

We used to spend a lot of time at Pace Bend Park on Lake Travis, it's primitive camping but there are restrooms throughout the park. We'd fish during the morning and evening hours, and swim during the heat of the day. The scenery is beautiful, cliffs overlooking the lake etc.



There are vendors that come during the busy months that rent kayaks and jet skis, but I'm not sure about boats.
