That depends upon what part of town you're in! :-)

Leander is northwest of Austin while Hutto is northeast of Austin. Both have a small town between them and Austin (Leander is next to Cedar Park, while Hutto is next to Round Rock). Both are about the same distance from downtown.

Leander is on the edge of the Central Texas Hill Country near Lake Travis, while Hutto is flat farmland.

The major road in from Leander is Highway 183, which flows fairly well with the new toll road, even in rush hour. To drive into town from Hutto generally means taking Interstate 35, which one shouldn't wish on his worst enemy.

No, the distance is actually almost identical: Leander is 27 miles from Austin, and Hutto is 28 miles from Austin.

The biggest difference would probably be traffic since I-35N is generally more congested than 183N or the tollway. However, even with traffic, the difference in driving time would only be about 5 minutes.
