Austin is not like any other city in Texas. I think the hippies from the 60's migrated there. It is diverse in culture. They have a laid-back attitude. Lots of bars and clubs, music, and decent places to eat. Religiously it is like any large community.

Austin is diverse, and loves "culture." The hippie movement is still alive and Travis county (where Austin is) is the most liberal county in Texas. Austin practically shuns religion. I've been going to school here for 3 years now and everybody thinks I'm a loony because I believe in God and am a Christian.

Eh, not very. But I'm from NYC, which is incredibly diverse, so I might be biased. The bulk of people in Austin are White or Hispanic. There is a fairly small "other" population, which would include blacks, Asians, etc. We have a fairly large foreign born population (Indian, Irish, etc.) because of the numbers of people who moved here to work at high tech companies.
Religiously, it's overwhelmingly Christian. There is a tiny Jewish population and an even smaller Muslim one. For the most part, the people are tolerant, but not of anything TOO far out of the norm. It's the most liberal place in Texas, but it's still Texas. And they like things that they understand.

Austin has great music, food, entertainment. Pretty diverse culturally and religiously. It has a really liberal laid back attitude. It's like the Montrose area in Houston but a lot bigger.

Very diverse. "Alternate " lifestyles are welcomed.
